“Vedic Holi” as a means of environmental protection and health promotion.

Dr. Kathiria’s appeal for the use of Gau Kashta (Gobhar Wood).

The festival of Holi falls during the transition period between winter and summer. During this time, the number of viruses in the atmosphere increases, raising the risk of infectious diseases. Holi, celebrated using the Vedic method, is highly beneficial from both religious and scientific perspectives. The use of Gau Kashta (cow dung wood), cow ghee, camphor, havan materials, and nine medicinal herbs purifies the environment and helps control harmful bacteria and viruses. On the auspicious occasion of Holi this year, the Global Confederation of Cow-Based Industries (GCCI) is appealing to society and Gaushalas to maximize the use of Gau Kashta (cow dung wood) as an eco-friendly and traditional alternative. Traditionally, a large amount of wood is used for Holika Dahan, leading to deforestation and environmental pollution. Using Gau Kashta for Holi Dahan will not only conserve forests but also educate future generations about environmental protection and the significance of Vedic culture. It will inspire the youth to protect forests, reduce pollution, and actively participate in environmental conservation. GCCI’s founder, Dr. Kathiria, while discussing the benefits of Gau Kashta, stated that its usage can help prevent deforestation and produces less smoke compared to traditional wood, thereby reducing air pollution. Additionally, it serves as an additional source of income for Gaushalas. GCCI aims to strengthen Gaushalas and rural economies alongside environmental conservation. GCCI has urged Gaushalas and social organizations to increase the production of Gau Kashta and contribute to its awareness and promotion. At the same time, it has appealed to citizens and society to adopt Gau Kashta and make their sacred festivals environmentally friendly. Furthermore, GCCI has also requested the government and local administration to promote the use of Gau Kashta and create public awareness about its benefits. If Gau Kashta becomes widely available in various cities and is used extensively, environmental pollution can be controlled. Dr. Kathiria has especially urged students and youth to participate in this eco-friendly initiative and contribute to spreading awareness about Gau Kashta.
